East Wall Cabinet

Here is the newest cabinet, on the East wall of the Dungeon.
On this one, I'm going to do more than just simple shelves,
the bottom half will have "pullout" shelves, and the top half,
will be kind of like a pantry, with storage on the inside of the doors.

The first "Pullout" is done!

and here are all the pullouts done. I made them all the same size, to ease construction,
but I installed them at different spacing so I can put larger things on the bottom, and smaller things on the top pullout.

One More Cabinet Done!

Not too much done but I did get this second cabinet done....................

This is the second cabinet that will reside behind the two bandsaw, these will be for deep storage, not stuff I need to get at everyday, as I'll have to move a bandsaw to open the cabinets.

In the other cabinets, I'm thinking of building pull out shelves on the bottom half of the cabinets.

That's it for today!

The Dungeon Overhaul

In my first post, I showed the Dungeon as it used to be, I've been real busy making the space a lot more usable, and improving the storage. I'm building a bunch of custom cabinets, nothing special, just plywood, but they will fit the space I have, hopefully making better use of it.

Some pics......

This is the basic lay of of the Dungeon before I started to make a mess down there. My biggest problem area was the lathe, it just does not "fit" into the space well, at the angle it is on, it wastes a LOT of space. The other tool concern was the two bandsaws, backed into that corner, it is just not very easy to get at or use the tools. Finally, the steel wire shelves I have are good shelves, but they do not keep any dust off of stuff. I NEED to build cabinets with doors on them!!

This is the basic evolution I've come up with, the end results will be something like this.
Moving the lathe to the West wall makes a lot better use of the space I have.

OK, here is the spot I cleared out for the lathe to sit, should be MUCH better here.
The router table was in this spot, I moved it to the other side of the SCMS, where the two bandsaws used to be.

The lathe is a bit close to the wall here, it will be on casters, so I'll be able to move it out away from the wall a bit.
Next I needed to build a cabinet next to the lathe, to put all my lathe stuff.......

Here it is! Now I have about another 7 or 8 cabinets to build, and in doing this, I'm upsetting the whole dungeon a lot. BOY is it a mess down there...........

It is kind of like playing one of them tile games we played as kids, you know, 15 spots and 14 tiles..........

Lots of work, but is WILL be much better when I'm done!

Welcome to my Blog

Well, I'm finally getting around to setting up a blog, here it is!

Many thanks to my buddy Alex for suggesting it, I'd thought of doing it a while back, but over the New Year, chatting with Alex, kind of reignited thoughts of doing this.

I'm a Canadian living in Tokyo Japan, I very much enjoy wood working, and I'm fortunate to have a basement in our building that I've converted into a woodworking shop. I call it the "Dungeon", as it is underground and it accessed by a hatch in the floor of our parking area.

You can check out a tour of my Dungeon here

I hope you enjoyed that, but that set up no longer exists, I'm in the middle of reorganizing my workshop, moving all the tools around, and making a BUNCH of new cabinets for the Dungeon.

Cheers!
